Muslim sect kills cleric in northeast Nigeria (AP)

In this Monday Aug. 8, 2011 photo, Nigeria's former Chief security officer, Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha, center, arrives for his trial at the federal high court in Lagos, Nigeria. The trial of Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha's chief security officer has reopened wounds in Africa's most populous nation while highlighting the religious and ethnic schisms still causing bloodshed. Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha faces conspiracy and murder charges over the June 1996 killing of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of a man who many believe won the country's annulled 1993 presidential election. Al-Mustapha has denied taking part in the killing, saying he was tortured into a false confession. (AP Photo/Sunday Alamba)AP - Authorities in Nigeria say a radical Muslim sect operating in the northeast has shot dead another prominent cleric from the region, the latest in a string of targeted assassinations terrifying the area.
