Hundreds protest after two killed in east Sudan (Reuters)

A family waits by their makeshift tent for a barge to continue their journey home from Kosti, September 21, 2011. Almost 13,000 Southern Sudanese are stranded in Kosti in White Nile State, living in tents and makeshift houses while waiting for barges to bring them home. Most of them arrived from Khartoum before or right after South Sudan's independence on July 9 by car and had hoped to continue their way home by Nile barge. But a shortage of barges has left southerners waiting in the scorching heat of a large camp. Picture taken September 21, 2011.
